Abel was the son of Adam and Eve. He became a shepherd and presented lambs as an offering to God (Genesis 4:4). His older brother Cain, who was angry because his own offering had not been acceptable to God (Genesis 4:5), killed Abel. This was the first murder in the Bible (Genesis 4:8). God described Abel’s blood as crying out from the ground (Genesis 4:10).
